I go to a bar to grab a drink, socialize, and spend quality time with friends. Unfortunately, most bars seem to think that their job is to make me def and serve over priced cocktails. There are a handful of bars in New York that seem to have their act together. They create a fun environment by providing board games. You can chat with your friends, make new ones, and enjoy some healthy competition.
206 Avenue A
bet. 12th St. & 13th St.
Tel: (212) 228-6231
Although the front looks like a typical bar, the shelving along the walls houses board games for everyone’s delight, and the couch style seating in the back is perfect for large groups. The back area is so popular that it is often booked for private events so make sure you come early and snag some space.
2. Fat Cat
75 Christopher St
At 7th Ave
Tel: (212) 675-6056
Fat Cat’s enormous space is equipped with 10 pool tables, 10 ping pong tables, 3 shuffleboard tables, 3 foosball machines, and enough chess (with time clocks), checkers, backgammon, and scrabble sets to satisfy a mob.
3. Dive 75
101 West 75th St
bet. Columbus Ave & Amsterdam Ave
Dive 75 smaller than most of the bars on the list, but is home to a loyal contingency of players and drinkers. The game of choice is Connect 4 and you will find some of the most competitive players in the city hanging out here. As an added bonus they provide margarita glasses with mini chocolates bars for your enjoyment.
4. 675 Bar
675 Hudson St
Tel: (212) 699-2410
This venue feels more like you are hanging out in a 70’s style basement than a bar in NYC. The Stylish and décor and unique layout are a real winners. Not only do they have games to play but they run several Jenga tournaments every year. So the only question is are your hands steady enough for the challenge? What about after 3 drinks?
5. West 3rd Common
1 West 3rd St
Btw Broadway & Mercer
This bar is the sister location of Common Ground. It offers all the characteristics of it’s east side relative without the difficulty of going to Alphabet city. Also check out their $25 all you can drink weekend brunch if you are up for some real shenanigans.
Keep Adventuring,
